FELDMAN RESIDENCE

Whitewater, WI

Steep slopes supported by multiple deteriorating railroad tie retaining walls and overgrown shallow-rooted vegetation at this vacation home on Whitewater Lake prompted a comprehensive design and strategic installation. Slopes were regraded and stabilized with a single timber retaining wall and overgrown shrubs were replaced with a diverse and highly showy blend of deep-rooted and drought resistant prairie plants. Photodegradable straw blankets and wattles were used to temporarily retain the slope while the native wildflower and grass planting became established. The new landscape created beauty, provides wildlife habitat, and requires less maintenance since the native plants do not require watering, mowing, or fertilization.
