Celebrate Arbor Day- April 24, 2015

Arbor Day is a day set aside for the purpose of planting and caring for trees, which the Arbor Day foundation calls “an act of kindness, a labor of love, and a commitment to stewardship.”

In Nebraska, 1872, J. Sterling Morton persuaded fellow Nebraskans to plant trees for windbreaks, erosion control fuel, building materials, and shade from the hot prairie sun. An estimated one million trees were planted that day.

Ways to celebrate Arbor Day:

  • clean up a local park or downtown area
  • plant a tree
  • reading a book about trees
  • volunteer with a local tree planting organization
  • take a nature hike
