We turned this eroding weedy shoreline into a formal, terraced perennial-matted one! Vegetation and soil were removed from the slope. Terraces were then built by stacking sandbags and staking them in with mesh liner. Finally, native vegetative perennial mats were stapled into sandbags. One challenge was the long trek from the driveway to the very steep shoreline, which could not be accessed by vehicle. With help from shoreline experts, we set up a conveyer belt system to haul the sod rolls and sandbags. The slope is now locked in and efficiently prevents run-off while providing a stunning habitat for pollinators.
