SAINT JOHN'S CHURCH

Evansville, WI

The architecture of this historical Frank Lloyd Wright inspired church features a terraced retaining wall that descends eight feet below grade to exposed basement windows. Through clever design, on the day of the winter equinox, the sun is allowed to shine over the wall and through the windows into the basement with perfect alignment. Unfortunately, the lower wooden wall was rotting and the natural stone wall above was settling due to a damaged water pipe near the foundation. Keeping the historical significance in mind, the failing stone wall was disassembled and precisely restored with existing salvaged stone and new carefully selected local stone, while the wooden wall was replaced with a matching durable natural stone wall. This flawless integration of materials and style showcases the professional hardscape craftsmanship of Formecology, LLC.
